New York City’s Easter Parade came back to life on Sunday along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The tradition, which began over a century and a half ago as a spontaneous stroll after holiday church services, has since evolved into a yearly fashion promenade. After a pandemic pause in 2020 and 2021, people again took to the avenue, around 53rd Street, to be seen and to see one another, doing their part to make the dark colors of winter give way with mood-lifting brights and over-the-top costumes. Bonnets and other finery were unpacked, adorned and proudly worn — not just as a fashion statement, but as a declaration of spirit.
